Texas Outdoor Survival Skills: Self-Reliance Basics

Self-reliance in the outdoors starts with education and preparedness. This class provides practical strategies that every outdoor traveler should know: emergency priorities; shelters; locating and accessing drinking water; and how to make your own emergency kit. These are important skills for any outdoor adventure. This class is taught by experienced instructors from both REI and LCRA.

The Self-Reliance Basics class is just that, a basics class that informs and demonstrates needed skills and concepts. There are additional Survival Skills classes that focus on hands-on experience in the specific area of: Shelter Building, Fire Building, and Food Finding. The culmination of these skills is the Overnight Experience class, giving you the opportunity to practice these skills in an outdoor environment.

You will receive a pre-course email from the Austin Outdoor School Staff 2-3 days before your class with more information about what to expect, what to bring, where to meet, etc…Please note that registered participants do not need to pay the park entrance fee.
