Ancestral Memory Jugs Exhibition & Talks 2023

June 15

June 15, 2023 @ 11:00 am - June 18, 2023 @ 3:00 pm

11:00am - 3:00pm

Ancestral Memory Jugs created by descendants of the Freedom Colonies in Bastrop County will be on exhibit at the historic Kerr-Wilson House in Bastrop, Texas for Juneteenth. These creations were made to honor ancestors as part of a project with Janis Bergman-Carton, professor of Art History at Southern Methodist University and the Bastrop County African American Cultural Center & Freedom Colonies Museum.

On Sunday, June 18, a group of the memory jug makers will be in the museum to talk about their creations and the freedom colonies from which they descend.
