The Bastrop County Historical Society (BCHS) has as its mission to preserve and promote the history of Bastrop through exhibiting unique artifacts, documents and research, highlighting Bastrop County history since its beginning in 1832. The legacy of the Bastrop County Historical Museum began in 1952 when a group called the Bastrop Ladies Reading Circle raised the funds to open our current museum in 1953. The BCHS Visitor Center of Bastrop provides a wealth of information about local activities, including, special events, dining, shopping and recreation. In addition, literature about the local community and the state of Texas are available to tourists visiting Bastrop.
