Bastrop, Texas will be hosting a series come-and-go BIG SIT birdwatching / bird counting circles on the 4th Saturday of the month throughout 2021. The participants see how many birds can be spotted or heard without leaving the circle. It’s great for beginners because more experienced folks will be around to offer guidance. Usually it’s done in a 17-foot circle but our circle will be widened to 50 feet to allow for 6 feet of social distancing between birders (or birder families.) If more people show up, more “circles” may be added.
Please bring whatever you need to be comfortable, whether it be a blanket or chair, binoculars or scope, field guide, water, snacks, etc. You also don’t have to bring anything to participate! Your eyes and ears are enough! Many birders stand at the “sits” and many folks bird by ear and with their naked eyes. There are public restrooms in Fisherman’s Park.
- March 27 also has Bird Art in the Park activity for kids until 1 p.m.
- April 24 includes Bird Photography lessons.
