Jeff Robertson and friends will kick the afternoon off at 4 pm with a great collection of Bluegrass music. Stay for an open jam session afterwards. A traditional Wine Stomp begins at 5 pm. Bring a shirt, squish that grape juice in between your toes, then leave footprints on your shirt. This is a fun way to commemorate our 2021 harvest!
GRAMP STOMPING: Grape stomping goes back hundreds of years, and used to be the only method there was to crush grapes to make into wine. Winos are familiar with this age-old practice, known as pigeage, which means “punching down” grape skins. As the grapes ferment in their juices, carbon dioxide forms during the process and causes solids to float to the top, which have to be pushed down again.
While the juice from our grape stomp won’t actually be used to make wine, the symbology is there, and we are excited to share this fun wine-making tradition with our friends. We have reserved the darkest grapes from harvest just for this special event. Each participant will get a turn to stomp the grapes with their bare feet before stepping out of the barrel and imprinting their footprints onto a clean white shirt. Those tannins will stain a dark red that will stay on the shirt forever. Come out and have a good time!
