Earth Native Wilderness in Cedar Creek, Texas is hosting another educational and fun course for you and your family with children as young as five years old. You will learn about bugs through games, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, using field guides, and through first hand observation.
Do centipedes really have one hundred legs? Do snails find new shells when they get bigger? Do daddy long legs really have the most potent venom but tiny mouths?
Invertebrates (critters without a backbone) make up 97% of the earth’s animal diversity. Butterflies, bees, wasps, beetles, worms, spiders, scorpions, snails, flies, ants, grasshoppers- they are around us almost all of the time, yet how often do we really stop to look at them? Kids take time to admire tiny creatures, but as adults we tend to discard them simply as pests or creepy crawlies.
You will learn to differentiate between the major groups of bugs and identify common local critters. We will teach you which bugs are truly hazardous and which bugs are safe and fun to catch and observe. There will even be an option to taste some delicious and nutritious insects, both fresh and cooked!
No prior experience is necessary and we encourage folks of any and all “bug comfort level” to attend!
