Event Navigation
Join Earth Native Wilderness School as they explore the ancient art of pine needle basket making and learn all about this primitive skill from the east coast natives on Sept. 9 in Cedar Creek, Texas. By stitching a coil of pine needles together, natives would create baskets and vessels for food, water and tools. Today pine needle basket makers are still using the original coiling and stitching method that the natives once did. Artists can create a wide variety of baskets with different types of designs by using unique stitching patterns and bending the needles to very unique shapes. Students will learn everything from how to harvest the needles, storing them, soaking and finally using them to make their very own basket from locally sourced pine needles. This is a fun, hands on nature craft for ages 9 to adult. This is an adult class; ages 9-15 must be accompanied by an adult.
