Event Navigation
Texas’ original down river Stand Up Paddleboard Race is still going strong on the Colorado River. Starting at Firsherman’s Park and ending at the Colorado River Refuge, this evening six-mile race is the perfect combination of competition and recreation. Whereas a seasoned SUPer will conquer this stretch in quick fashion, a recreational SUPer or weekend warrior will enjoy a new challenge and achievement. Those watching can cheer on their favorite competitors!
This race is named after the El Camino Real paddling trail – one of the most popular kayaking and SUP trails in Texas, and the original El Camino Real, the “Royal Road,” was a series of trade routes from Mexico City through Texas in the 18th century Spanish colonial era which made settlement and development of Texas possible. The river changes along the way from deep wide waters to shallow narrow passes with big flat water and skinny little quick spots that make this an ideal setting for a SUP race. The Colorado River is a class 1 river so no worries about portaging rapids. Pre-registration required.
