Playhouse Smithville in Smithville, Texas presents a limited seating production of Shakespeare’s Comedy, Much Ado About Nothing directed by Playhouse Artistic Director john daniels, jr. (sic.). Sam Blasco stars as Benedick the “benediction” and Cara Linsey as Beatrice, the “blessed.” As the play begins, they are lovers who’s only intimate interactions are their challenges of words and wit. Benedick, a confirmed bachelor, swears he will never marry and Beatrice is of the same mind “unless men are made of some other metal.” Through a series of cons by well-meaning friends they are brought together while true love’s Hero, played by Dani Houle, and Claudio, played by Dalton Williams, are torn apart by an evil con, master-minded by Borachio, Adriel Anderson, and the villain Don John portrayed with bile by Playhouse Technical Director Brandon Flippo. Steve Hiaght embodies the comic character Doggberry, the malapropping Master Constable, whose incompetent officers of the watch, featuring Brandy Royster and Jessica Avis, accidentally unravel the sinister plot. The show also features Sam Damon as Leonato and Kimber Dillon as Dona Petra.
