The Colorado River is 862 miles long; the longest river with beginning and end both in Texas. A portion of the Lower Colorado River meanders through the center of Bastrop County and the towns of Bastrop and Smithville. Surrounded by trees, the slow-moving river is great for kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, fishing and swimming. Public intake/outtake points include Fisherman’s Park in Bastrop, Bastrop County Nature Park, the Smithville boat ramp under the double bridge at Hwy 95, and Vernon L. Richards Riverbend Park in Smithville.
Two paddling trails are on this portion of the river.
