The Colorado River is 862 miles long; the longest river with beginning and end both in Texas. A portion of the Lower Colorado River meanders through the center of Bastrop County and the towns of Bastrop and Smithville. Surrounded by trees, the slow-moving river is great for kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, fishing and swimming. Public intake/outtake points include Fisherman’s Park in Bastrop, Bastrop County Nature Park, the Smithville boat ramp under the double bridge at Hwy 95, and Vernon L. Richards Riverbend Park in Smithville.
