Stay close, this ghostly tour will walk through some of the most interesting and creepy locations you can imagine.
1. The Old Bastrop County Jail – At least three people met their death at the gallows here, on the second floor. One was an outlaw who was said to have killed 13 people. The “hanging hook” remains.
2. Maxine’s on Main, Bastrop, TX – Almost all the staff at Maxine’s have reported incidents. One waitress came back to visit after being gone for a while. When she entered, hubcaps adorning the wall came flying. After naming the ghost “Jack,” they learned a man named Jack Black had fallen off the roof to his death many years ago.
3. Buescher State Park’s “Harry the Hook” – No one has ever seen him, but we know he’s there, watching the campers as they out and waiting for them to turn in for the night.
4. Smithville, TX Recreation Center – Ask the locals about this one. Everyone seems to have a story.
5. Liberty Tree Tavern, Elgin, TX – This 1900’s building was once a funeral home. Supposedly some of the folks whose lives were celebrated here aren’t in a hurry to leave.
6. McDade Historical Museum, McDade, TX – We believe the ghosts here wear cowboy boots. On Christmas Eve in 1883 at the Rock Saloon, now the McDade Historical Museum, vigilantes found three of the men they had been hunting and escorted them to a tree for hanging. When their friends came to town the following day, there was gunfire and three more coffins were needed.
