The Smithville Public Library, initiated in 1929 by members of the Smithville Woman’s Club, provides free services to all residents living within the Bastrop county boundaries with services available to all others according to Library Director discretion. The library system holds over 48,500 materials including over 43,000 books, and 3,000 CDs, video tapes, DVDs and audiobooks.
In total, over 50 thousand items were checked out of the system during fiscal year 2007-2008! In addition to these items, thousands of people entered the library to utilize print and electronic reference resources, access the Internet through the Library’s fiber-optic connection, enjoy state-of-the-art WiFi service, participate in computer and Internet training, view a Library exhibit, or attend one of the Library’s many events.
